Hey guys, if you want to know more about the sports teams that I like, give my podcast a listen to. In this episode I go into a little more detail about why I like each team that I do.
Hey guys check out my podcast where I talk about Kentucky Basketball with my friend Coleslaw Jackson.
Hey guys, I know you are tired of hearing about the Super Bowl by now, but give this a quick listen to. Me and my friend break down the Super Bowl by quarter. Thanks for listening.
No matter what sport it is there will always be a debate on who the best player ever for that sport is. Today we are going to look at who are considered the best players in each of the four major North American sports.
First let’s look at the NFL. There isn’t much of an argument for this one. Pretty much everyone agrees that it is Wide Receiver Jerry Rice. Not only is Rice considered the best receiver in NFL history but the best player overall, and his stats tend to back that up. With the most receiving yards, touchdowns, and receptions Rice cemented his legacy as the greatest of all time.
Next is the NBA. There is more of an argument for the greatest basketball player of all time. Most consider it to to be Shooting Guard Michael Jordan, others say it is Point Guard Earvin “Magic” Johnson and a select few think it is current play Lebron James. Anyone can argue for each of these players. In my opinion the greatest player of all time is Magic Johnson. I think he was better than Michael Jordan for a couple of reasons. First off, Johnson could play all five positions and play them well. Jordan, on a good day, could maybe play up to small forward and that would be about it. Second, I feel like he impacted the game more. Johnson was an assist master he could get the ball to the right place every time. He was also a match-up nightmare, Johnson is 6 foot 9. He had the athletic ability ti play point guard and shooting guard, and the height and strength to play small forward, power forward and center. At the end of his career though I believe that Lebron James will be the greatest player of all time. He will have the stats and the records to back it up.
Next is the MLB. Much like the NBA the best player in MLB history is up for debate. Most people, myself included, think that Babe Ruth is the best player of all time. He was the home run king for several decades and his stats still hold up well today despite him playing from 1914 to 1934. He is a seven time World Series Champion and led the American League in home runs 12 times. The only player who I think should be in the conversation is Cy Young. Cy Young is considered the best pitcher ever, and with good reason. Cy Young has 511 wins as a pitcher, the most wins by far. Other than these two I do not think there are any other players that should be in the conversation.
Lastly, let’s talk about the NHL. There is no argument for this one. The greatest hockey player of all time is Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky has the most goals in the history of the NHL by a large margin with 2,857, the next closest player is Jaromir Jagr with 1,898. He also has the most points in an NHL season with 215, the next closest is Mario Lemieux with 199. There is no one else to compare to, Gretzky is undoubtedly the greatest player in NHL history.
Who do you guys think are the greatest players ever?
Here is a video of a list of the most dominate sports athletes:
There are several teams looking to rebuild their roster with this year’s NFL draft. Especially the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and the Chicago Bears, these teams have the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd picks in the draft. All of these teams need tremendous help in several positions. This year’s draft could lay the building blocks for the teams future core of players.
With the first pick in the draft the Cleveland Browns are expected to either take Linebacker Myles Garrett from Texas A&M or Quarterback Deshaun Watson from Clemson. The majority of people think they will go with Myles Garrett as Watson is more of a gamble since he did not play in a pro style offense. Myles Garrett could provide a spark off of defense that they are in dire need of. While if Deshaun Watson does work out he could finally be the answer to the Browns’ continued Quarterback problem.
With the second pick in the draft the San Francisco 49ers are expected to take Cornerback Marshon Lattimore from Ohio State, Quarterback Mitch Trubisky from North Carolina, or Myles Garrett if the Browns do not take him. All of these players could have a significant impact on the 49ers in different ways. Lattimore could be a lock down corner and a leader on the defensive side. Trubisky could replace the current starting Quarterback Colin Kaepernick, and have a competent leader on offense. And Garrett has unrivaled explosiveness of the snap and can get to Quarterbacks in the blink of an eye.
With the third pick the Chicago Bears are expected to take Defensive End Jonathan Allen from Alabama. This pick is pretty much locked down, the Bears haven’t had a strong defensive player since Brian Urlacher retired, and this could give them that defensive presence that they so desperately need.
After the first three picks, the rest of the field is wide open. There is no guarantee that a certain player will be taken by a certain team. It will be interesting to see where some of the best NCAA players will land, such as Strong Safety Jabrill Peppers from Michigan, Running Back Dalvin Cook from Florida State, or Running Back Leonard Fournette from Louisiana State.
When the regular season began, Kentucky was one of the clear cut favorites to win the NCAA title. And early on they looked like the undisputed favorite to win it all. But in recent weeks Kentucky has stumbled quite a bit in terms of rank and odds to win the tournament.
It all started with a loss to UCLA just like last year, after losing to UCLA Kentucky has been on a bit of a skid. Losing one of their last games to Florida by 22. Usually these losses happen earlier in the season when the players are still learning to play as a team. We usually say that Coach Cal will have them ready come March, but this year March is just right around the corner, and the team is still trying to figure each other out.
It is expected to have growing pains with a whole new crew of freshmen players but it has never been this bad in the 8 years that John Calipari has coached the Kentucky Wildcats.
So what’s wrong with the Wildcats now? Well its a combination of several things. First off the dribble drive is not working, they need to find a better way to score because what they are used to just ins’t going to cut it this year. Secondly, Bam needs to start hitting free throws and going into the low block with power instead of expecting people to get out of his way. He needs to push them out of his way and go up to score the basketball. Lastly, they need to play together as a team and trust each other. Right now there is so much hero ball going on that it is ridiculous. Everyone is trying to do too much and it is hurting the team badly. Everybody just needs to calm down and trust in their teammates to get the ball to them when they need to.
If Kentucky continues on this skid they could very well find themselves out of the tournament come the middle of March. That or an early round exit. As Kentucky fans though we have to trust in John Calipari to get this team to play together, he has done it late before. Just look at the team from 2013, they weren’t playing well until the tournament then they rattled off win after win and made it to the National Championship, ultimately losing to Connecticut.
Do you Kentucky fans believe that Cal can turn this around? This Kentucky fan thinks he can.
I’ve talked about professional sports up until this point, now I want to take a look at collegiate sports. More specifically college basketball.
This year’s college basketball season has been a wild ride like no one expected. No team in the top 25 is safe this year. It seems unlike most years there is no clear cut favorite to win the national championship. There have been a few weekends where more than half of the top ten ranked teams have all lost. It has been pure chaos this year in college basketball.
Let’s look at the standings now. There is only one team that is still undefeated, the Gonzaga Bulldogs. But as it always goes with Gonzaga there are doubters of how good they really are as they play in one of the weakest conferences in the NCAA. They play in the West Coast Conference who’s second best team is Saint Mary’s University. If they get by them Gonzaga will likely finish the regular season undefeated and go into the NCAA Tournament as a 1 seed. But a lot can happen in that time and Saint Mary’s is not going to just lay down, they will fight and battle till that final buzzer sounds.
The other predictions for the number 1 seeds are Villanova, Kansas, and Baylor. All of these teams are very good and will be tough to beat, but as we have seen all season anybody can beat anyone this year.
Along with the surprising upsets this year there are some surprise teams ranked in the top 25. Like Saint Mary’s, who I mentioned above, they are a tough team this year and are ranked at 20, they will be a challenge for anyone who has to play them in the tournament. another surprise team is Creighton, they are ranked 23 in the country. Ever since Creighton lost Doug McDermott they haven’t really been able to compete at a high level.
No matter how you look at it this year’s NCAA Tournament will be just as exciting as ever. As always people will fill out millions of tournament brackets trying to pick the winner, with no clear favorite it will be interesting to see who the public will pick to win it all.
The NBA season is now at its halfway point, more realistically its like 2 thirds of the way through, and to no ones surprise the Golden State Warriors have the best record in the NBA at 43 wins and 8 loses followed closely by the San Antonio Spurs who boast a 38-12 record. If the playoffs started today the Warriors and the Spurs would be the number 1 and 2 seeds in the Western Conference. The Houston Rockets would be the 3, the Utah Jazz the 4, the Los Angeles Clippers the 5, and the Memphis Grizzlies the 6. While the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Denver Nuggets would be the 7 and 8 seeds respectively.
Now let’s take a look at the Eastern Conference Standings. Of course the Lebron James led Cleveland Cavaliers are leading the East with a 35-15 record followed by the Boston Celtics who have a 33-18 record. Below the Cavs and the Celtics are the Toronto Raptors at 3, the Washington Wizards at 4, the Atlanta Hawks at 5, the Indiana Pacers at 6, the Chicago Bulls at 7, and the Detroit Pistons at 8. The Charlotte Hornets and the Milwaukee Bucks are just outside the playoff picture at 9 and 10 respectively.
If everything stays the way it is the Warriors will end up with the best record in the NBA for a third straight season and look to make it to their third straight NBA Finals. To do that however they will have to get by a tough Spurs team and a red hot shooting guard in James Harden and the Rockets. While in the East it is more of a toss up between the Cavs and the Celtics, all it would take for the Celtics to take the 1 seed would be for Cleveland to lose a few games in a row and the Celtics win a few.
The Cavaliers will look to defend their NBA Championship from last year as well as make the NBA Finals for the third straight year. And come away with the title. The Cavs will have a slightly easier path to the Finals than the Warriors with the only real challenges coming from the Toronto Raptors and the Boston Celtics.

The NBA All-Star lineups are set and the All-Star weekend is primed to be as exciting as ever with the three point contest and dunk contest.
The starters and reserves were earlier this month and to everyone’s surprise there were a few snubs worth mentioning. The starter for the East are as follows, Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, Lebron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jimmy Butler. The West starters are Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Stephen Curry, and James Harden. This year’s game could be even more high scoring than last years game where both teams scored almost 200 points a piece. With Curry and Harden and Curry leading the way the West could easily outscore the East as they do not have as much of a scoring threat. The East does however have better defenders in Jimmy Butler, Lebron, and DeRozan. You can check out the full lineups and reserves at the link below.
Now lets move onto the three point and dunk contests.
The three point contest features the best three point shooters in the NBA. The lineup goes as follows, Eric Gordon, Kyrie Irving, Kyle Lowry, Wesley Matthews, CJ McCollum, Klay Thompson, and Nick Young. The favorite to win this contest is Klay Thompson who finished second last year to fellow teammate Steph Curry. There could be some surprises as Nick Young when he gets rolling is deadly from the outside as well as past winner Kyrie Irving. The three point contest should shape up to be the most exciting event of the night as the dunk contest does not provide the star power it normally does.
The dunk contest lineup is, Aaron Gordon, DeAndre Jordan, Glenn Robinson III, and Derrick Jones Jr. This dunk contest does not offer the same amount of excitement as past contests have. The clear favorite is Aaron Gordon who finished second last year. Its weird to me because the other contestants in the contest are not really known for their dunking ability, but who knows there could be a battle like last year, only time will tell.

What do you guys think of this year’s All-Star weekend lineup?
Well the Super Bowl has come and gone. It was a marvel to see one of the greatest comebacks in the history of any sports league. The New England Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in the first ever Super Bowl to go into overtime.
The game could not have started better for the Falcons. At halftime they were up 21-3 and looking as good as any team. It got even better from there as the Falcons would soon go up 28-3 halfway through the third quarter. Then the Patriots scored a touchdown, but missed the extra point. No big deal right? The Falcons were still up 28-12. On the ensuing Falcons possession Matt Ryan was sacked and fumbled the ball. The Patriots proceeded to drive down the field and score, they went for two and made the game 28-20. The next Falcons drive got to the Patriots 20 yard line and were on the verge of putting the game away with a field goal. All they had to do was run the clock and kicked a field goal and they would have won the game. But that would not be the case, the Falcons passed three straight times. A sack and a holding penalty forced the Falcons out of field goal range and they were forced to punt the ball. The Patriots marched down the field and scored the game tying touchdown and two point conversion. This sent the game into overtime. In overtime the Patriots won the coin toss and went down the field easily and scored the winning touchdown. This capped off one of the greatest if not the greatest comeback in NFL history.
I don’t really know what to say about this one. The Falcons had the game won and just threw it away. It is what it is though. The Falcons are primed to repeat next year as NFC South next year and are favorites to make the Super Bowl again. With all this being said, I still hate the Patriots more than any other team that has ever existed.
